Your team
Within the The European Green Sky Directorate , the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) carries out research, innovation and simulation activities to help improve European aviation performance, safety and sustainability, bridging the gap between R&D and operations. The EIH also addresses emerging new technologies as well as deployment of drones and urban air mobility systems.
The Software Developer will, as a member of the development squad in the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub, design and develop new, dynamic, front-end and backend software by using creativity, a delivery focused approach and teamwork as core values.
You will be assigned to the Engineering Centre of Expertise (CoE) and be working for the modernisation of the simulator programme.
The EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub is seeking Software Developers who have experience in full-stack development.
Your role
Your role will be to:
- Design, develop and implement front-end and backend software in the scope of EUROCONTROLs innovation hub projects.
- Participate to projects:

- capture and analyse project needs in an iterative manner in collaboration with end-users.
- support users in refining the needs/requirements (expectations vs feasibility).
- identify and implement technical solutions.
- support projects during demonstration activities.
- For some projects, potentially:
- contribute to architecture & DevOps.
- develop and run cloud applications serving R&D and innovation projects.
- Perform acceptance testing; analyse impact of incidents from a users perspective identified during testing and participate to validation activities.
- Analyse system performance to identify potential shortcomings and propose solutions.
- Produce technical documentation.
- Collaborate with internal & external teams and stakeholders on relevant technical matters.
- Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.
- University degree of at least 4 years (e.g. Masters degree) in a relevant domain (e.g. Software Engineering, etc.) with minimum 2 years relevant professional experience.
- Experience of server-side technologies: Java, Spring Boot, web services (WSDL, XML, REST/HTTP, etc.).
- Experience in Gradle or Maven, and Linux.
- Knowledge or understanding in one of the following domains:
- Knowledge of browser technologies: React.js or equivalent, HTML5/CSS/SVG, TypeScript.
- Knowledge of server-side technologies: Java, Spring Boot, web services (WSDL, XML, REST/HTTP, etc.).
- Knowledge in database (MySQL, PostGreSQL, ElasticSearch, etc.).
- Understanding of Cloud technologies: Azure, Docker / Kubernetes, Message brokers (Kafka, Redis, NATS, etc.), Terraform.
- Analytical thinking: You analyse information and are able to identify relationships.
- Problem-solving: You anticipate and solve business issues.
- Creativity and innovation: You apply new approaches.
- Communication: You are able to foster two-way communication.
- Quality focus: You set and foster high quality standards.
- Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment.

- The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. The selected candidate will be required to become, at least, a basic user of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period. The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

- The selected candidate may be required to provide documentary evidence confirming they meet the minimum education requirements. They will be informed if and when specific evidence is needed. - The selected candidate will be offered a contract for a duration of 3 years in accordance with the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract will end no later than 31 December 2029. However, this contract may under certain budgetary conditions be renewed for a total duration of up to nine (9) years, or it may be converted into an undetermined contract.
- The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post.
- The successful candidate shall be engaged in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
- Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
